About Ms. W & Science Schedule

Hey Friends! I'm Shaneka and I live in sunny Florida. I love, love, LOVE the beach, anything that deals with teaching, and learning. This is my fifth year teaching and my ninth year in the education field. I began my teaching journey as a substitute teacher and gained so much experience at one school for four years while I completed my undergrad degree. Since a little girl, I always wanted to become a teacher. Like many, I used to play with my teddy bears and pretend an old, wooden, brown piano seat was my desk. When I am not teaching, I'm completing assignments, pinning on Pinterest, browsing the net, or thinking of my next adventure be it in and out of the classroom. I love skating, eating, and shopping at local boutiques. I look forward to sharing my journey in and out of the classroom. I also hope to connect, inspire, and learn a lot from my fellow blogging colleagues.

During our SCIENCE BITS block, we explore science using DoDEA's College & Career Ready Science Standards. We focus on collaboration and making sure students have opportunities to partake in engaging discussions with their peers. I teach using the 20/60/20 model. First, I begin with an opener using a video, vocabulary lesson, or review previously taught information. Next, the students and I explore new concepts through experiments and hands-on learning. Last, we discuss new information and record our findings in our journals. This block is ever-changing based on what we're currently learning. You'll find valuable information and resources about fish for the next few weeks. Enjoy!
